The third edition of the SudEstampe Biennale will take place in various spots between Nîmes and Octon, from November to January 2013.This edition will mostly be about contemporary engravings and is acquiring international dimension.
Three artists are going to settle in emblematic places in Nîmes, MarcelleBenhamou's « Les petites filles »will be displayed on the Foster wall in le Carré d'Art, Charlotte Massip's « Les disséqués » will dwell in Mr Gignac's antique shop gallery and Eve Luquet's engravings and paintings will be shown at the Lycée daudet.
Jean Le Bedeff, an early XXth century woodengraver of Russian origin will beexhibited at the Musée des Beaux Arts.
At the Galerie de la Salamandre, a group of artists have worked on the theme of abundance, initiated by the latin proverb « Quod abundat non vitiat », « Plenty is noplague », that every artist has treated in a variety of original forms.
In addition to the usual places of exhibitions, the Biennale deepens its roots in Nîmes, new galleries having joined in. The colours of Catherine Hachon, an artist from Nîmes will charm Philippe Roussel's workshop gallery (former galerie du Chapître). Javier Roz, a Spanish artist will be exhibited at the galerie du Lac Gelé.
As usual, the Droguerie Ménard contributes to the Biennale and will display ink boxes, diverted from their original designs by the artists from « Les venus d'ailleurs »association.
The Goyard bookshop will dedicate its window to engravings and the Carré d'Art bookshop will also propose books about engravings and artists, as well as the catalogue published on this occasion.
The Biennale spreads out around Nîmes, as far as the musée des Alpilles in Saint Rémy de Provence, where artists' greeting cards will be displayed, and in Uzès an exhibition devoted to Gide's work can be seen at the Musée Georges Borias.
In Castelnau le Lez, at the Arpac, Véronique Agostini shows « les Prédictions » an exhibition dedicated to Michel Tournier's novel « Vendredi ou les limbes du Pacifique », Robinson's adventures.
The 2012 Biennale also acquires international dimensions. A carte blanche has been given to Laura Darbutaité, a Lithuanian artist, at la Maison de la gravure Méditerranéenne in Castelnau le Lez ; and in Octon, a mezzotint exhibition will bring together eight artists coming from different countries and continents.
